Festive Farmhouse

Over the last few years, Instagram influencer Allison Aars, founder of popular blog The Festive Farmhouse, has been restoring her family’s newly acquired 100+ year old Texas farmhouse. Allison lives with her husband, two boys and one crazy dog, affectionately known by her fans as “Hershey Girl.” They can often be found working on projects around the farm and taking in the view of the wildflower covered hills in their backyard. For her latest house projects, Allison partnered with Simpson Door Company on gorgeous, large farmhouse doors. Read more about her projects below.

Room Divider: Make space for noise

The first project Allison and her husband wanted to tackle was separating the bonus room from the rest of the house. This would allow for added privacy and increased noise buffering for movies or company after the kids went to bed. With a giant doorway, the couple wasn’t sure how to accomplish this task. No door seemed big enough to fit the bill. That’s when Allison found the solution with Simpson. She selected a massive, custom interior barn door installed on barn door tracks. The outcome? An easy and simple way to divide the space while still matching their interior design perfectly.

Allison’s door is a Hemlock wood, large customized barn door from Simpson (model 49812). The handles on both sides of the doors were chosen and installed separately. To add personal style to the door, Allison mixed and applied her own custom stain, then sanded the door down and stained it again to give it a bronze look. Despite its dimensions, this custom barn door slides easily along its barn door tracks.

Farmhouse doors: Add charm to your entryway

Two large farmhouse doors now grace the front of the Aars family’s entryway. For this project, Allison selected two matching Simpson doors, style 7504. Allison picked Douglas Fir wood for these doors, but any door size or wood species is available at Simpson. The doors can be used for swing applications, or installed in various ways such as on barn door tracks to provide the perfect farmhouse look to your home.

Dutch back door: Let in the fresh country air

To up the farmhouse charm, Allison added a Simpson Dutch door to the back porch of her beautiful house. The main goal for this area was to add a touch of light and cozy appeal to the back of the house, while allowing the top half of the door to open up and allow fresh country air to filter in without letting the dogs into the house. This door was customized for the space and ordered in Douglas Fir. The door includes 3/4” insulated glazing and 1-7/16” Innerbond double hip-raised panels.
